Institute for Steel Development and Growth (INSDAG) is a not-for-profit, member-based organization established by the Government of India (Ministry of Steel) and Major Steel Producers of the Country in the year 1996 as a "Society" under Societies Registrations Act of West Bengal 1961.
Creating awareness amongst potential users about benefits of steel use.
Providing prompt advisory service on materials, construction practices, interpretation of codes etc. and creating an environment for better usage of steel.
Organizing refresher courses / training programs and offering better technical know-how, design aids and teaching aids.
Communicating the benefits of steel vis-à-vis other competitive materials, through life cycle cost studies, where required.
Providing requisite thrust to increase steel consumption in rural areas.
"In abodes, infrastructure and locomotion in three dimension - steel is the material of past, present and future"
Dr S. K. Gupta
Eminent Metallurgist and Director, JSW Steel Limited
"Romance of creating new generation inspiring structures will always remain with new age steel. Magic of steel will always be miles ahead in terms of strength, shine, flexibility & speed."
Prof. (Dr) Gopal Mitra
Renowned Architect and Chairman Universal Consortium of Engineers (P) Ltd
"With steel we design and build slender and sleek architecturally adorable infrastructure. It speeds up construction, makes the structure stable and brings down the life cycle cost ensuring minimal wastage."
(Dr) A R Santhakumar
Distinguished Professor, Former Dean and Professor of Structural Engineering, Anna University, Chennai and Professor of Emeritus IIT Madras
"The development of infrastructure has picked up increased momentum in India over the last couple of decades. Steel has thus naturally experienced a renaissance, because of its attributes as a construction material, aided also with developmental effort from INSDAG. This trend is set to be on a rising curve in the coming years."
Dr Prem Krishna
Distinguished Structural Engineer and Professor Emeritus, IIT Roorkee
"Steel is everywhere in our lives. It is essential to the technologies and solutions that meet society’s everyday needs – now and in the future. Steel is central to our current transport systems, infrastructure, housing, manufacturing, agriculture, water and energy supply."
Dr Edwin Basson
Director General, World Steel Association, Brussels
"With newer innovations in manufacturing, Steel is getting stronger and increasingly ductile over the years, making the structures sleek, aesthetically attractive, - yet safe against fury of natural forces like wind and earthquake."
Mr Amitabha Ghoshal
Renowned Structural Engineer and Vice President-Directors STUP Consultants Limited
"I am happy to record that during the last decade or so, the use of Steel in built Environment and Infrastructural facilities has started finding its rightful place in the Country. Thanks to the initiatives taken by TATAS, MITTALS, JINDALS and other major steel manufacturers, the availability and choice of heavy steel sections in wide flange variety or tubes, or pipes has increased. A number of entrepreneurs have nurtured the “Pre-Engineered Building” industry and have successfully made acceptance of this system considerably popular all over India. INSDAG has also played a major role in increasing awareness of steel as a building material amongst Engineers and Architects, through Seminars, workshops and design competitions. All these efforts have started paying up and I see a bright future in the use of Steel Construction in the Country."
Mr. Mahendra Raj
Eminent Structural Engineer
